Nerd Convention, Part Deux

For the past few days we have been embracing our inner-nerd at the GenghisCon gaming convention in Denver. This event is a follow-up to the TactiCon event that we attended over Labor Day. At the last convention we didn't participate in many games. Allen played a couple, but I mostly just chased Samuel. We saw several that looked interesting, though, so this time we sat down with the catalog ahead of time and both selected a few to play.

Allen chose mostly role playing games and I picked board games. We had choose wisely to make sure that our schedules didn't overlap since one of us had to be able to entertain Samuel at all times. The game organizers frown on toddler players. Imagine that!

Since I am new to gaming nerdery it was surprising to both of us that I actually enjoyed my games more than Allen. I played Starfarers of Catan, a version of Settlers of Catan that takes place in outer space, and Mystery Express, which is a whodunit type games similar to my childhood favorite, Clue.

Allen said the role playing games he chose were fun, but he wasn't crazy about the people he had to play with. Some of them are just a little too involved in the gaming world and take things much too seriously. He also said a few had some personal hygiene issues that made it hard to be around them. Yuck! Next time we go (yes, there will be a next time) he intends to also play board games and leave role playing to the super-nerds.

Samuel was very helpful pushing our luggage up to the room.

We stayed for two days and enjoyed eating out and a nice hotel room. It's always fun to stay somewhere else and not do dishes! On our way back to Cheyenne we stopped at the Denver Children's Museum so Samuel could finally release all of the pent-up energy that had been building over the weekend. He was able to do so much more this time and really enjoyed all of the different stations throughout the museum. He did all kinds of fun things!

He worked on the farm

Made new friends

Practiced being a train engineer

Mopped at the grocery store

Checked groceries

Became a chef

Climbed a really big tree

Hung out with Mommy in a tree house

Burrowed tunnels underground with Mommy

And stopped to smell the flowers

He even got to see the fire truck lights flash and made the "woo, woo, woo" sound effects!
